Aside from being one of the most well known concert photographers in the underground music scene, Wa Tu also has an extensive and undeniably impressive body of work which stretches far beyond the confines of music photography and includes street photography and portraiture. One such body of work is 'Roots', the name of which adeptly sums up the content...roots.

I like simple and direct. I don’t like all that fluff that is used to attract attention. It is what it is, doesn’t need any inflated names to steer people in.
To introduce this series of work, here's an analysis of it by photographer @
"Chinese people hold special kind of sentiment towards roots. This series of black and white photos candidly express these twisted roots in all their complications, confusion and extension. Almost expressing a very complicated set of feelings, a type of unyielding spirit. A state that represents life. Like blood flowing through veins. Like the spirit of thinking. The blending of black and white and the contradictions they create elevate this series of work to the heights of philosophy."
